In the spring of 2021, I was a student in School of Motion’s Illustration for Motion course taught by illustrator extraordinaire, Sarah Beth Morgan. Lessons included how to effectively brainstorm storyboard ideas, how to gather inspiration and create mood boards, how to factor motion into illustration and set up files, and how to take illustrations to the next level through the use of distortion and color theory. Below are a few of the projects I submitted.  Besides being a ton of fun, the course was invaluable in strengthening my illustration and motion skills. Illustrations were done in Procreate and Photoshop.

Digital Binge / We were asked to create a design for a new audience using an existing concept and illustration as reference. The new audience was younger and tech savvy. I chose to reorient the point of view, creating more action and tension.

Grandma’s Kitchen /For this project, we were given a voiceover script and a design brief from the client, Grandma’s kitchen. We were tasked with coming up with a concept, sketches, and fully illustrated scenes that would present Grandma’s kitchen as a fun and dynamic product with tons of cool flavors.

Normal Coffee & Donuts / We were tasked with creating five scenes that would emphasize the happiness and energy coffee and a delicious donut brings. We were given a client brief that included a voiceover script, color palette, and request for a diverse character.

Far Out Games / For this exercise we were given a voice over and theme, the 1960’s. We built a mood board based on the period and used it to inspire our illustrations for a card game. I decided to go with a mid-century inspired color palette that highlights the characters and suits from a standard deck of cards.
